This is confusing cause and effect.

The police find that uninsured drivers are 6 times as likely to have accidents as insured ones. This is because those people that don’t have insurance are likely to be those of poor moral hazard or those who find that the cost of insurance is too high due to their age or poor driving records (e.g. drunkards, young males etc)

If you, personally, decide to drive without insurance (obviously illegal) it is unlikely to make you a worse driver. Of course what many people forget is that if you find an insurance company 30% cheaper than your current one and switch then you do not become automatically a 30% better driver. The chance of an accident is the same – but the insurer has 30% less money to pay out in claims – think about it.

It does sound abit silly, its the same driver behind the wheel insurance or not, But you have to ask, if they haven't got insurance what else have they not got, Licence?, MOT? could be a number of things

The point is that YOU would know you had no cover,and you would not like to be caught,so , what do you do in a tight situation. You take risks that quite often lead to trouble,which also leads to getting caught, if the driver is alive after the crash.

I think the theory is that people who don't give a toss about insuring their car also feel the same about the rules of the road, other people's safety, etc., etc.

If you have no insurance you have probably got no licence, road tax or MOT either. Therefore you should not be on the road.

It’s because the type of people who don’t have insurance, are the type of people not to care. For example; joyriders.

Also, some cars are sometimes worth less than it costs to insure them, so people don’t because they can replace them for cheaper. Those types of car probably have comparatively poor performance and less safety features, than modern cars, therefore more likely to crash.

Maybe you are more likely to have accident as your stress levels are higher?

My personal thoughts are bad news travels faster than good news so if someone has a accident without insurance thats more likely to get talked about that someone who drove without insurance and didnt have an accident (especially they got away with it as they wouldnt want people to know they didnt have insurance).

Why are you more likely to crash without insurance?
I saw on tv that the police said your 6 times more likely to crash if you don’t have insurance, I don’t get it, surely if your driving without insurance your more careful to avoid crashing as it would cost you a lot.
